Eastern Movie Journal

Write for us

Eastern Movie Journal welcomes thoughtful pitches and finished contributions about cinema traditions, film form and screen culture across Eastern regions. Proposals should offer a clear idea, careful context and a reason the subject will interest general readers.

What to pitch

We consider explainers, comparative essays, film-history pieces and close readings of a film, genre or visual choice. Contributions should have a defined subject and avoid presenting one film, country or audience as representative of a whole region.

What makes a strong proposal

Send a concise summary of the main idea, the angle that makes it distinctive, the likely reader and any relevant sources or examples. For a finished piece, include the draft and note whether it has appeared elsewhere. Do not send confidential or unpublished material you are not authorised to share.

How to submit

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a working title and a short outline; an idea is welcome even when it is not yet a complete draft. A submission is not a promise of publication.

Our point of view

Every film carries a world of choices

Eastern Movie Journal looks beyond plot summaries to consider how films tell stories, shape images and reflect the screen traditions around them.
